The week before Scott got home, CJ's Nannie and Papa came for a visit. So here's some more catching up...
CJ had lot of fun with both his Nannie and Papa. The first morning they were here, when we left for the gym, he got to the back door, and then ran into the living room where they were. He first grabbed his Nannie's finger, and then grabbed Papa and took then to the back door because he wanted them to come with him. So cute!
I was appreciative of all the fun they had because I was able to get some things done that are hard to do with my little shadow. But we also did some fun things. One day we went downtown and walked along the river walk. Then we headed out for some Mexican food. Yummy! CJ found a new way of travel he was pretty fond of...
We also went to FDR's Little White House. If you have ever watched AFN...so all our friends from Japan...you totally know what I am talking about. It was very quaint. The house was truly tiny. There is no way it would be deemed sufficient today. I was struck by the simplicity of it and how today we think we need so much more than we really do.
The last "fun day" we had, we headed to the bustling metropolis of Plains, GA. The weekend they were here, also happened to be the annual Peanut Festival. Here is CJ totally crashed out. He knew how much fun he was about to have, and knew he needed to rest up...
And then we were off to the fun...
But the highlight of the day was a parade. We formed up at the corner of main street. We made sure to be there on time because this was CJ's first parade!
And here we are waiting patiently for the parade to begin. We were able to catch a glimpse of President Jimmy Carter. Plains is his home town, and he was the lead off of the parade. I wasn't fast enough to snap his picture, but Nannie was happy CJ was just close to him. She's so silly...
And here is the parade. There was a small contingency of the Marine band...
Mr. Peanut...
A trolley full of senior citizens from a local nursing home. They liked waving at CJ...
and CJ liked waving back.
There were also lot of fun little cars, tractors, and horses...
(a side note here...look at the front of the truck...it definitely said "Redneck Power")
And with the exception of about 15 Tiny Miss Forestry Service Queens, this was literally the entire parade. (I just couldn't bring myself to take their pictures.) After the parade we headed over for lunch. There were little booths that had crafty stuff and fair food. We tried a deep fried Snickers...I don't recommend it. One of my favorite "kid quotes" of the day, was by a little boy whose mom was trying to get him to try alligator on a stick. He looked at her with a grimace and said, "Well mom, I don't really like sea food." Then we were off again with Mr. Bear and Nannie in tow...
The only time CJ got even a little fussy was at President Carter's book signing. Nannie wanted to see him just one more time, and since CJ took a cat nap on the way down, we thought he would make it until the president got there. We waited and waited.
CJ got a fun sign and played with his Nannie. He ran around, hit the dirt with the sign, got a boo boo and entertained those who were waiting with his cuteness.
But alas, President Carter was running late, and little boys who have been in the hot sun all day and whose nap time was over an hour before were not willing to wait any longer. We left before he got there, and since we didn't even have a book for him to sign, we figured we didn't miss that much.
We had a great time with them, and can't wait for them to come again!
